Climate Change, Health and the Built Environment Discussion Series
Part 2: Adaptation and Community Resilience
Monday, March 7, 2022
11:30 am - 12:30 pm PT
Via Zoom Webinar
With an increasingly urgent need to adapt to our changing climate, the built environment offers unique opportunities for programs and new practices that can protect and improve human health. In order to effectively capitalize on these opportunities, it is critical to engage stakeholders from real estate, development, public health, public policy, climate adaptation, and other industries. The challenges — such as more frequent and severe heat waves, wildfires, hurricanes, and floods — can be destructive to the built environment, harm human health, and displace communities. However, the solutions offered by intersectoral work can be cost effective, simple, and innovative. Through discussion and collaboration, implementing solutions can add value to real communities, increase resilience, and improve quality of life.
During our second session, we will explore how these solutions come to life - from research and design to partnership and implementation. Our speakers — who represent climate, health, and the built environment from a variety of sectors — will discuss opportunities for action, overcoming barriers, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Panelists will also provide an overview of both available and anticipated policies, practices, and technologies that are designed to build climate resilience and adaptation. The impacts of these solutions on climate, health, and equity will be core to the discussion.
